Jennifer Siler-Hunt – Music Director, Conductor
 

Jennifer received her Bachelor's in Music Education from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, where she was the Assistant Director of the UST Wind Ensemble, and her Masters in Education from Sam Houston State University. She began teaching band in 2010 at The Kinkaid School. She is currently the Band Director at The Village School in Houston. She has studied clarinet with Richard Nunemaker of the Houston Symphony, Tom Phillips of the Shreveport Symphony, and conducting with Fred Angerstein. 

 

Jennifer currently plays clarinet and conducts with the Houston Symphonic Band, and has performed on several international tours throughout Europe and Asia. She is the Contest Chair for the Houston Symphonic Band's Concert and Sightreading Contest, the former founder of The Jazz Reboot Project, and the former Houston Area Private Schools All-City Honor Band Coordinator, and ATSSB Region 23/27 Secretary. Her passions in music education are technology and globalization, her thesis on the Globalization of Performance Based Music Education was published by the Journal of Universality of Global Education Issues in 2017. She is an advocate for music education throughout Houston. 

Mark Veenstra - Assistant Conductor

 

Mark Veenstra has worked in public schools in Texas for 44 years, 36 of which at Cy-Fair High School. During that time, the Cy-Fair Band appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade, at the Texas state marching competition five times, was a state honor band finalist multiple times, and performed at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago in 2018.  

 

Mr. Veenstra is a frequent clinician and adjudicator throughout Texas, Colorado, and the Midwest, and is associated with the Docentus Group, a national organization contracting high-quality music educators to school districts. During the Summers, Mr. Veenstra works at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp of Twin Lake, Michigan.  Mr. Veenstra is also the assistant director of the Houston Symphonic Band, a community band of adult musicians active in the Houston area.  

 

Mr. Veenstra has two sons, William, a high school math teacher and the assistant visual caption head of the Bluecoats of DCI, and Thomas, a computer science teacher in Cypress Fairbanks.   Mr. Veenstra lives in Cypress TX and Muskegon MI.
