<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%> Houston Symphonic Band

The Houston Symphonic Band provides adult musicians in the Houston area the opportunity to play and perform some of the finest music literature available. We also seek to serve the community by bringing family oriented performing arts into the community, providing a high quality musical experience that is both accessible and of minimal cost.

We pride ourselves in our support of music education and the music educators who will foster the next generation of musicians and music lovers. Our directors, along with many of our other fine musicians, often provide clinics, workshops and other hands on assistance to local and regional schools. We also are building a collection of reference recordings available on CD of important band and wind ensemble litterature including contest pieces and works suitable for skill development.

The Houston Symphonic Band is a strong advocate of community music programs and believes that music should not end after high school or college, but be a life long persuit. We therefore encourage everyone to support the performing arts organizations in their communities to assure that they continue to grow and thrive.

The Houston Symphonic Band is a not-for-profit organization as qualified by section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Tax Code. Monetary and service donations are welcome and are tax-deductible. For more information on sponsorship, call 713-253-4380 or e-mail the band at:

2009-2010 Concert Schedule is announced

Our upcoming concert season has been announced including performances for several Houston area church's concert series, our annual Christmas concert, our guest artist concert and a joint concert in Brenham with the Blinn College Symphonic Band. Please check back frequently for updates and concert information.

Clarinet Choir

The Houston Symphonic Band now has a Clarinet Choir. Anyone who plays clarinet who thinks they might enjoy playing with a large number of other clarinetists are encouraged to contact us and let us know of your interest. We especially encourage people who play low clarinets to join (Alto, Bass, Contra-alto, Contra-bass). We are happy to announce that this group (conducted by Fred Angerstein) has been invited to perform in San Antonio, Texas for the Texas Music Educators Assciation Annual Clinic/Convention on February 14, 2009. This is an extreme honor and we are very proud of the ensemble's recognition.

We rehearse at 6:00PM before our regular Thursday HSB rehearsals. If you are interested, please contact Nancy Angerstein at: nangerstein@Comcast.net

Flute Ensemble

Shimmer Flute Ensemble was founded in January 2006 to provide flute players in the Houston Symphonic Band more opportunities to perform and to socialize. We have performed at a number of local venues including the Heights Home Tour, The Coffee Retreat, The Heritage Grand Club, and Memorial City Mall. Our repertoire covers a wide variety of genres, including many Irish tunes, Renaissance music, American folk classics, children’s favorites, and classical literature. We are currently seeking to expand our membership. All flute players are welcome. We especially would love a few alto and bass flute players as we move into music arranged for full flute choir. If you are interested, please contact Donna Pattison at donnapat@pdq.net or 713-240-8933.
